All Mouth Becoming is a performance by Haley Craw and Charlotte Arculus at Hungate Medieval Art, using ritual, movement and music, the mouth becomes a charged boundary to express an overflowing spiritual experience. Howling, crying, and bleeding, the symbolic becomes the real in ritual, crossing the boundaries between the internal and external experience. The words of medieval mystics such as Julian of Norwich and Marguerite Porete reverberate throughout the space, a communion with their minds through their mouths. It is the language of paradox, it is and it is not blood. It is touching the unknown with drawn hands. It is feeling where she may have stood. The self is annihilated through intuitively led ritual, Arculus’ music becomes Craw’s voice, their bodies merge. The shared body is connected to the charged space it fills; the voices of medieval women crawl through the centuries.
